The morning is such an important part of the day. It represent a new beginning and sets the tone for the rest of the day.
Everyone has a different routine to start the day but I feel that when I start my day with the following steps I have a much better day
Start your day with movement. No, this does not mean go to the gym and work out in the morning (I actually prefer working out at night) but stretch your limbs, wiggle your body. You have been sleeping in a confined space all night so moving around helps to get the blood flowing. I have personally starting doing yoga in the morning, using videos on YouTube but stretching for a few minutes does the job too!
Hydrate! I am definitely not the first person to say this but HYDRATION IS KEY. Drinking water helps start your digestion, and hydrates you after a long night asleep. In the summer, I love adding lemon and ginger to my water but in the winter I keep it nice and simple. I would advice drinking warm water because it feels easier on the stomach and really gets the digestion started. You do not need extra additives like lemon or ginger, just plain simple warm water does just the trick.
Eat well. As a student, I know very well the appeal of getting breakfast on the go, which probably consists of muffins and coffee for many. Wake up 10 minutes earlier to make breakfast that takes less than 10 minutes. I highly recommend some oatmeal or some toast and a smoothie, making sure you have some fruit and complex carbs for the day.
I will highly recommend overnight oats too if you would like to take your breakfast on the go.(click here for my favourite overnight oats recipe)
Most importantly, think about the one thing you will like to accomplish that day. Not something big but something small. For example, I tell myself that today I am going smile more, text a friend to check in on them. Again nothing too out there, but simple enough to get my day going.
These small and simple changes are sure to get you started on a healthy and productive day!
